The Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump Interpretative Centre is a UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site that preserves and interprets centuries of Plains Indians buffalo culture. The facility is near the town of Ft McLeod which is a 90-minute drive south of Calgary. The building sits right on the actual cliffs where the Plains peoples used to drive buffalo herds over as a means for food sustenance. Take a hike to the top for a splendid view of the vast terrain.
NOTE: For international visitors who are in Banff or Lake Louise we can organized an overnight trip to this Indigenous attraction. On route a stop to see the Star Trek Capital of Canada at Vulcan is an option, and on the return we will take the scenic route up Highway 22X and stop at the Bar U Ranch historical site.
